Purpose
This year, ANCC has redesigned the 2012 Research Symposium to provide advanced and skill-building sessions focused on establishing and expanding a Magnet research agenda in healthcare organizations. The new symposium program is targeted to meet the needs of hospital-based researchers.
Highlights
Opening Keynote: Robin Newhouse, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN
Dr. Newhouse is chair and associate professor, Organizational Systems and Adult Health at University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is a leading expert in evidence-based practice for direct care nurses and implementation research. As a health services researcher, she studies healthcare processes and related patient outcomes. Dr. Newhouse is a member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Research Council, represented the nursing profession as an invited member of the Advisory Council in Evidence Based Behavioral Practice at Northwestern University from 2007-2011, and is Chair of the Research and Scholarship Advisory Council for Sigma Theta Tau International. In 2011, she was appointed to the Methodology Committee of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) by Comptroller General of the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
Closing Plenary: Sheila A. Haas, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Haas is a Professor and former Dean of the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago. She does research, publication , and consulting in the areas of translational research and evidence-based practice, clinical ladders, work redesign and evaluation, differentiated practice , and nursing intensity systems. Dr. Haas has served on the Research Committees of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). She has also served as AAACN President and as President of the National Federation of Specialty Nursing Organizations . In 2009, Dr. Haas was recognized as the Illinois Outstanding Nurse Leader. Currently, Dr. Haas writes a Health Care Reform column for AAACN's Viewpoint and serves on the American Nurses Credentialing Center Board of Directors, the Nursing Spectrum Regional Board, and the Nursing Economics Editorial Board.
